Shania Twain - Up! [Green]

Up! is one of the most audacious mainstream pop records ever released. In 2002, following the biggest selling album by a woman in any genre, Shania Twain and Robert John "Mutt" Lange recorded nineteen songs and then mixed them three separate times: a country version, a pop version, and a Bollywood influenced version, shipping them together. It debuted at number one and has been certified diamond in the United States.

The songs hold up regardless of which mix you land on. "I'm Gonna Getcha Good!" opens with a guitar riff Lange presumably kept in a drawer from his Def Leppard years. "Forever and for Always" and "She's Not Just a Pretty Face" are the ballad and the manifesto respectively, "Ka-Ching!" skewers consumer culture with a wink, and "Juanita" and "Nah!" show a writer having a genuinely good time. Recorded across Windmill Lane, Compass Point, and Officine Meccaniche, with mastering by Marcussen and Gateway.

It remains the last true blockbuster of the pre-streaming era and the record where Twain stopped worrying about which radio format would claim her.

This 2LP reissue presents the album on green vinyl across four sides. A colorful pressing of a genuinely strange and hugely successful record.
