Propagandhi's second album arrived in 1996 with its mission printed right on the cover: animal-friendly, anti-fascist, gay-positive, pro-feminist. At a moment when skate punk was selling records by keeping things light, the Winnipeg trio used the same fast, melodic template to say exactly what they believed, and dared their own audience to argue.
Less Talk, More Rock is a title with its tongue in its cheek, because the talk is the point. "Apparently, I'm a 'P.C. Fascist'" and "Nailing Descartes to the Wall/(Liquid) Meat Is Still Murder" take on animal rights at full speed, "The Only Good Fascist Is a Very Dead Fascist" leaves no room for misreading, and "Refusing to Be a Man" closes the record by turning the lens on punk itself. Bassist John K. Samson contributes "Anchorless," a quieter, more literary song he would later revisit with The Weakerthans.
Nearly thirty years later it stands as one of the defining political punk albums of its era, a record that pushed a largely apolitical scene to pay attention and set the course for everything Propagandhi has done since.
