Released in October 1970, Atom Heart Mother is the fifth studio album by Pink Floyd and marked a significant turning point in their career. It was the band's first #1 album in the UK and saw them moving away from the purely psychedelic sounds of the late 60s toward more "expansive, orchestral arrangements." The album is famous for its side-long title suite, which features a brass section, a choir, and cello, blending rock music with "classical and avant-garde" influences.
The current vinyl reissue restores the "magnificent and strange" audio of the original Harvest/EMI release. With the iconic "cow on a hillside" cover (photographed by Hipgnosis), this LP is an essential piece of any Pink Floyd collection. The vinyl format is particularly well-suited for the album's "natural, organic textures," from the gentle folk of "Fat Old Sun" to the experimental sound collage of "Alan's Psychedelic Breakfast."
