After a nearly decade-long hiatus from his signature "guitar-driven industrial" sound, Mark Alan Miller returned to the Out Out project in 2016 with Swan/Dive?. Released via Artoffact Records, the album is a "snappy and aggressive" rejection of the project's later electronica experiments, instead invoking the heyday of the North American industrial rock scene. It is a record built on "crunchy rockers and mid-tempo tweaky synths," delivering a physical punch that echoes the project's 90s classics like Pepperbox Muzzle.
This vinyl release features the two well-received singles "Shut Up!"—an admirably minimal track with snarled vocals and peals of six-string noise—and "Look Up, Hannah," a politically charged anthem referencing Charlie Chaplin’s The Great Dictator. For collectors, the album was made available on limited edition vinyl, including a distinctive brown-colored variant, housed in a sleeve that reflects the "bleak and hollow" industrial aesthetic of the music within.
