Orgone - Chimera [Opaque Yellow]

Named for the mythical beast with a lion's head, a goat's body and a serpent's tail, Chimera finds Orgone at their most exploratory. Released on 3 Palm Records in 2024, it blends psychedelic Afro-soul, thrumming Afro-funk, dub excursions and stoned psych-rock into something hypnotic and restless.

Guitarist and producer Sergio Rios, whose credits include Neal Francis and Say She She, says the album took shape organically, and there is a looseness to the performances that gives it the feel of a shadowy dream. Vocalists Jamie Allensworth and Terin Ector join Congolese singer Mermans "Mofaya" Mosengo, whose presence pushes the band deeper into African diaspora grooves. Tracks such as "Basilisk," "Zum Zum" and "Tula Muisi (Dance Like Them)" stretch out into long, trance-like grooves.

Fans of Khruangbin, Altın Gün and heavy psych funk will find plenty to love here.
