The legendary Bill Leeb (Front Line Assembly, Delerium) returns with his long-running industrial side project, Noise Unit, for one of the band's most poignant releases to date. Released in late 2022 via Artoffact Records, Cheeba City Blues is a deep-dive into the "mechanical miasma" of the cyberpunk genre, serving as a dedicated tribute to the late electronic genius Jeremy Inkel. Inkel, a vital member of the FLA family who passed away in 2018, co-wrote and programmed much of the material featured on this album, making it the final archive of his innovative soundscapes.
True to its title—a nod to the gritty "Chiba City" of William Gibson's Neuromancer—the album is a disparate, fragmented collection that mirrors the neon-lit chaos of a dystopian future. From the melodic, synth-pop leanings of "Alone Again" to the old-school industrial weight of "Heal All Wounds," the record blends traditional EBM with downtempo, dub, and leftfield electronics. This Double LP Solid Yellow Vinyl edition captures the "weird and wonderful" atmosphere of the sessions, housed in striking cover art designed by the iconic Dave McKean (The Sandman, Arkham Asylum).
