Released on Factory in 1986, Brotherhood is the fourth New Order album and the one that most clearly splits the band's two personalities down the middle. Guitars drive the first half, machines take over the second, and the whole thing bridges post-punk and electronic music as neatly as anything they ever made.

Side one runs through the bristling "Paradise," "Weirdo" and "As It Is When It Was," with Peter Hook's bass and Bernard Sumner's guitar up front. Side two opens with "Bizarre Love Triangle," one of the band's best-known songs, then moves through "All Day Long" and "Angel Dust" before closing on the playful "Every Little Counts."

Forty years on, it remains a fan favorite and a neat summary of why New Order mattered: nobody else made guitars and synthesizers feel like equal partners in quite this way.

This limited 40th anniversary reissue from Rhino features the 2024 remaster on a single LP of clear vinyl.
