Motley Crue - Too Fast For Love [Boxset]

The version of this album most people know is not the one the band originally made. When Mötley Crüe pressed 900 copies of their debut on their own Leathür Records in November 1981, it ran ten tracks, self-produced over a handful of days in a cheap Hollywood studio, raw enough to sound like it was recorded during a bar fight rather than after one. Elektra signed the band the next year and had Roy Thomas Baker remix it, dropping a song and tightening the rest. That 1982 edition became the standard, and the original went back to being a collector's rumor. This box finally puts both on the table.

The 1981 Leathür version is here remastered on its own LP, exclusive to this set, alongside the 1982 Elektra remaster. From there it goes deeper than any Crüe reissue has gone. An entire LP is given to the band's first studio session, cut in March 1981, including the previously unreleased "Nobody Knows What It's Like To Be Lonely." Two more LPs capture thirteen tracks recorded live at Perkins Palace in 1982, four young degenerates at full volume in front of a hometown crowd, playing "Live Wire" and "Piece of Your Action" like the songs still owed them something.

The physical presentation matches the ambition. Five LPs on black vinyl, a CD of the 1981 version, a 100-page hardcover book of unpublished early photographs, a lyric book, a replica of the original demo cassette, a replica 7-inch single, and a replica poster from the Strip days.

This is the definitive treatment of the record that built Sunset Strip metal, released October 30 via BMG in a limited edition. Debut albums this important rarely get archives this complete. When it's gone, it's gone.
