Mogwai's debut arrived in October 1997, just as Britpop was running out of steam, and it sounded like nothing else around it. Mogwai Young Team is an exercise in dynamics and fury, where near-silent passages give way to walls of guitar and the avant-garde sits right next to moments of real, fragile beauty.
"Like Herod" is the famous volume war, drifting for minutes before detonating, and "Mogwai Fear Satan" closes the record in a sixteen-minute swell that still defines what post-rock can do. In between, "Katrien," "Summer (Priority Version)," and "R U Still in 2 It" show a young Glasgow band already fully in command of tension and release.
Nearly three decades on, it remains the blueprint for a generation of instrumental rock bands.
This remastered reissue on Chemikal Underground spreads the album across two red LPs in a gatefold sleeve with the original artwork, plus a digital download code. Reserve yours now.
