MJ Lenderman's self-titled debut is where it all started. Recorded at home and originally released in 2019, it captures the Asheville songwriter at his most exploratory, stretching his songs out into long, hazy jams well before Boat Songs and Manning Fireworks made him a household name in indie rock.

The album leans into slowcore and drifting country rock, with songs like "Heartbreak Blues," "Southern Birds" and "Grief" unfolding patiently over woozy guitars and room-sound drums. It is looser and more meditative than his later work, but the wry, tender songwriting is already fully present.
