Mirah - C'mon Miracle [Sea Blue]

Two years after Advisory Committee, Mirah came back with a record shaped by travel, distance, and a quieter kind of urgency. C'mon Miracle arrived on K Records in 2004, again produced with Phil Elverum, and it trades some of its predecessor's explosiveness for something more direct and more political.

"Jerusalem" is the pivot, a plainspoken meditation on inheritance and violence set to spare drums and organ, and "The Light" and "Don't Die In Me" carry a similar weight. Elsewhere the record loosens considerably: "The Dogs Of B.A." was written from a stay in Buenos Aires and moves on accordion and a recited passage, while "We're Both So Sorry" and "You've Gone Away Enough" work in the small, warm, slightly broken textures Elverum specializes in. The closing "(Exactly Where We're From)" opens out into autoharp, cello, and double bass.

It is often called the most underrated album in her catalog, a record that rewards patience and reveals more with each return. Restrained where Advisory Committee was volatile, and every bit as good.

This reissue is pressed on sea blue vinyl via Double Double Whammy. A beautiful edition of a record long overdue for wider attention.
