Lycia - Casa Luna

Released in 2021 via Avantgarde Music, Casa Luna is a "rich and varied" studio EP that marks a significant creative collaboration between the label and the legendary Arizona outfit. Described by founder Mike VanPortfleet as a spiritual successor to 2018's In Flickers, the EP is one of the band's "purest releases," capturing the current lineup of John Fair, David Galas, Tara Vanflower, and VanPortfleet at a creative high point. What began as a planned 7" split evolved into a six-track odyssey that "flits between the atmospheric and the heavy."

The record is a bridge across Lycia’s nearly 40-year history. It features meticulous re-recordings of early synth-based demos from 1989 ("Except" and "Galatea"), alongside explorations of Spanish and Flamenco styles first touched upon in 1983. From the "textured grind" of "Do You Bleed?" to the "sequenced, art-rock break" of "Salt & Blood," Casa Luna showcases the band's ability to "push the rawest sounds to their furthest edge" while maintaining their signature, "reverb-drenched" beauty.
