In 2013, a 16-year-old Lorde asserted herself as the voice of a generation with her debut, Pure Heroine, which went triple platinum and won two Grammy Awards. Four years later, she returned with Melodrama, recorded over an eighteen-month period with co-writer and co-producer Jack Antonoff, a partnership that would go on to define both of their careers in the years since.

Critics responded with near-universal acclaim, and the record went on to receive a Grammy nomination for Album of the Year, later being recognized as one of the defining pop albums of its decade.
