Light Conductor - Sequence One

Light Conductor began as a meeting of two Montréal studio lifers: Stephen Ramsay of Young Galaxy and Jace Lasek of The Besnard Lakes, with Besnard Lakes bandmate Olga Goreas often in the room. Sequence One was their 2019 debut on Constellation and the opening chapter of what became a three-album cycle built from restored vintage synthesizers and analog outboard gear.

The five pieces here move slowly and deliberately. Tube-saturated drones swell and recede, sequencer patterns flicker at the edges, and melodies emerge from the haze rather than sitting on top of it. "A Bright Resemblance" and "Chapel Of The Snows" set the tone with long, glowing sustain, while the closing title track leans into the heavier, more physical sound design that separates this project from bedroom ambient. The approach owes as much to psychedelic rock production as to kosmische music, and fans of Spiritualized, Cluster or William Basinski will find plenty to sink into.

It remains the natural starting point for anyone arriving at the trilogy now that Sequence Three has completed it.
