Released in 2021 via Get Better Records, Going to Hell is the debut solo album from Lande Hekt, known as the frontwoman of the Exeter-based punk trio Muncie Girls. While her work with the band often tackled external socio-political issues, this solo effort turns the lens inward. Written during Hekt’s coming-out period, the record is a deeply personal diary of transformation, wrestling with the "jolts of disbelief" and self-doubt that often accompany a major life shift.
Sonically, the album trades the fast-paced punk of Muncie Girls for a more contemplative, indie-leaning sound that draws comparisons to The Replacements and The Beths. Recorded at Rainy Day Studios and 4AD Studios, Going to Hell manages to be both "socially aware" and "unflinchingly vulnerable." From the driving self-reflection of the title track to the tender, localized memories of "December" and "Hannover," Lande Hekt proves herself to be one of the most vital and clear-eyed songwriters in the modern UK scene.
