Forty years in, KMFDM shows no sign of slowing down. Let Go, released in February 2024, is the band's twenty-third studio album, marking four decades of what founder Sascha "Käpt'n K" Konietzko calls conceptual continuity, and it arrives with the same combative energy that's defined the project since day one. The core lineup of Konietzko, Lucia Cifarelli, Andy Selway, and Andee Blacksugar sounds as locked in as ever, trading pulse pounding rhythms, scorching electronics, and blistering guitar work built to take aim at a world in perpetual turmoil.
The record moves through KMFDM's trademark Ultra Heavy Beat with real stylistic range. The title track and "Airhead" lean into techno, dance, and funk influenced grooves, while "Turn the Light On" pairs revolutionary oratory with spaghetti western guitar and glitchy synth leads. Cifarelli tears through "When the Bell Tolls" with riot grrrl fury, "Next Move" gets a shot of hip hop energy courtesy of longtime collaborator MC Ocelot, "Erlkönig" goes for cinematic Teutonic electro, and "WW 2023" closes things out with a dub inflected warcry. Mixed and mastered by Benjamin Lawrenz and wrapped in cover art from Aidan "Brute" Hughes, it's a record that refuses to sit still across its runtime, true to the band's own philosophy of never letting anyone see the next move coming.
This limited edition double vinyl pressing runs at 45 RPM, the first time KMFDM has ever released a record at that speed, giving four decades of Ultra Heavy Beat the sound quality it deserves.
