Kim Gordon has spent more than four decades refusing to repeat herself, and PLAY ME keeps the streak alive. Her third solo album, released on Matador in March 2026, follows The Collective, the 2024 record that earned her two Grammy nominations and put her blown-out, beat-driven sound in front of a new audience. Rather than build a sequel, she went the other way: shorter songs, made quickly, with less room to hide. "We wanted the songs to be short," Gordon says. "It's more focused, and maybe more confident."

Working again with producer Justin Raisen, her collaborator on all three solo albums, Gordon widens the palette to take in more melodic beats and the motorik drive of krautrock. The lead single "NOT TODAY" rides a steady, propulsive pulse and finds her actually singing in a register she had left alone for years, while "DIRTY TECH" and the title track keep the glitchy, heavily processed edge that made The Collective hit so hard. Twelve tracks go by fast, and the whole thing plays like a set of physical jams built for volume.

The targets are large ones: the collateral damage of the billionaire class, the dismantling of democracy, the A.I.-fueled flattening of culture into chill vibes. Gordon meets all of it with dark humor instead of slogans. For all its outward gaze, this is an interior record at heart, charged with emotion and more interested in asking questions than handing down verdicts.

This indie exclusive edition is pressed on white vinyl, available only through independent record stores. A sharp, restless record from an artist still very much in process.
