Released in 2012, good kid, m.A.A.d city was Kendrick Lamar's major-label debut and the record that announced a generational talent. Subtitled "A Short Film by Kendrick Lamar," it plays as a cinematic coming-of-age story set on the streets of Compton.

Executive produced by Dr. Dre, the album balances radio-sized singles like "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Bitch, Don't Kill My Vibe" with sprawling narrative epics such as "Sing About Me, I'm Dying of Thirst." Guests include Drake, Jay Rock, MC Eiht, and Dr. Dre, over production from Hit-Boy, Just Blaze, Pharrell, and more. It earned four Grammy nominations and is now regarded as one of the defining hip-hop albums of its era.
