Kacey Musgraves - A Very Kacey Christmas

Before Golden Hour made her a Grammy-winning crossover star, Kacey Musgraves made a Christmas album that sounded like nobody else's. Released in 2016, A Very Kacey Christmas trades the usual sleigh-bell gloss for retro kitsch, Western swing and Hawaiian lap steel, with a wink and a lot of heart.

Musgraves picked her standards carefully, favoring the quirky corners of the songbook: "Mele Kalikimaka," "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer" sound like they were beamed in from a 1950s holiday variety show, while "Let It Snow" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" are warm and unhurried. The originals are the real treasures. Willie Nelson joins her for the sly "A Willie Nice Christmas," Leon Bridges duets on the soulful "Present Without a Bow," and "Christmas Makes Me Cry" is as honest a holiday song as anyone wrote that decade.

Playful, sincere and beautifully played, it has become a modern favorite for listeners who like their Christmas music with a little Texas in it.

This Mercury Nashville LP presents the twelve-track album.
