Jungle - Sunshine [Indie Exclusive]

Jungle spent a decade as a duo, J Lloyd and Tom McFarland building sleek, string-laden dance records that sounded like a lost soul compilation run through a club system. Volcano gave them a BRIT Award and a genuine global hit in "Back On 74." For Sunshine, their fifth album, longtime collaborator Lydia Kitto finally joins as a full member, and the band arrives as a trio.

Lloyd and Kitto produced the record themselves, and it stays loyal to the formula that made Jungle a festival staple: falsetto hooks, strings that swoop in from a seventies soundtrack, and grooves locked tight enough to dance to in a kitchen. "Carry On," "The Wave" and "Someday, Somewhere" led the campaign ahead of the title track, while rapper Bas turns up on "Romeo II" to add a verse that pushes the album briefly toward hip hop. Kitto's voice is more present than ever, and it gives the warmer, slower moments a different color from earlier Jungle records.

Sunshine went top five in the UK and charted across Europe, Australia and Japan, confirming Jungle as one of the most reliable dance acts of the last ten years. It is a summer record through and through, built for long evenings and open windows.
