Released in 1976, Sad Wings of Destiny is the album where Judas Priest found their identity. Their debut had shown promise, but this was a bold, dark and ambitious leap forward, and it laid down much of the blueprint for heavy metal as we know it. Rob Halford has called it his personal favorite Priest album.

The songs are the stuff of legend. "Victim of Changes" is an epic of twin-guitar drama and operatic vocals, "The Ripper" is a short, shrieking burst of menace, and "Tyrant" and "Dreamer Deceiver" show the band's range from crushing riffs to haunting atmosphere. Halford, Glenn Tipton and K.K. Downing were already operating on another level, and many of these songs are still in the setlist fifty years later.

After the band regained the rights to their early recordings, longtime producer Tom Allom returned to the original multitrack tapes to give the album the same treatment he gave the acclaimed 50th anniversary edition of Rocka Rolla. This newly remixed and remastered version lets the record hit with the weight it always deserved.

This 50th anniversary edition is pressed on two 180-gram LPs.
