Released on July 23, 1996, Static Prevails is the second studio album from Mesa, Arizona’s Jimmy Eat World and their major-label debut on Capitol Records. Marking a seismic shift from their early skate-punk roots, the album introduced a more complex, powerful sound influenced by the burgeoning "emotional hardcore" scene and bands like Christie Front Drive. As drummer Zach Lind noted, the goal was to be "really melodic but still very powerful"—a balance the band mastered alongside producers Mark Trombino and Wes Kidd.
This limited double-vinyl reissue presents the album with the "audiophile treatment" it deserves. Originally squeezed onto a single LP (or paired with a promo 7-inch), the record is now expanded to two 12-inch discs to ensure maximum fidelity. The set also includes two essential bonus tracks, "77 Satellites" and "What Would I Say To You Now," which were previously only available on international or hidden versions.
