Jane's Addiction - Ritual de lo Habitual [Pearl White]

Ritual de lo Habitual is the sound of a band burning through everything it has. Released in 1990, it is Jane's Addiction at full stretch: funk-metal swagger on side one, and then the long, hallucinatory suite of "Three Days" and "Then She Did..." that turns the second half into something closer to art rock.

"Been Caught Stealing" gave them an unlikely hit and an MTV staple, but the album's heart is the extended material, where Dave Navarro's guitar and Stephen Perkins' drumming stretch out under Perry Farrell's keening voice. The original cover art, Farrell's own sculpture, was banned by chain retailers and replaced with a plain white sleeve quoting the First Amendment.

The band imploded on the tour that followed, which became the first Lollapalooza, a festival Farrell created partly as a farewell.
