Born out of a period of deep personal struggle and intense atmospheric tension, the album's title—derived from the Greek word for a fundamental change of mind—perfectly captures its creative thrust. Entirely written, produced, and mixed by Chris Corner in the high-contrast landscapes of Los Angeles and Wonder Valley, the record is a "hand-crafted" journey from the heart of darkness into a new, sophisticated light.

The album is a masterpiece of dark electronic poetics, balancing the aggressive, industrial-lite drive of tracks like "No Maker Made Me" with the raw, cinematic vulnerability of "The Great Shipwreck of Kindness."
