Duran Duran - Notorious

Released in November 1986, Notorious signaled a bold new chapter for Duran Duran. Following the experimental detour of the side projects Arcadia and The Power Station, the band returned as a leaner, sophisticated trio consisting of Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes, and John Taylor. Produced alongside the legendary Nile Rodgers, the album traded the lush synth-pop of their early years for a gritty, "brassy" brand of dance-rock and urban funk.

The title track, "Notorious," became an instant worldwide smash, reaching #2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and becoming one of the most sampled tracks in hip-hop history (notably by The Notorious B.I.G.). With its sleek, noir-inspired aesthetic and contributions from guitarists Warren Cuccurullo and Nile Rodgers himself, the album moved the band into a more "mature" sonic territory. From the seductive grooves of "Skin Trade" to the political edge of "Meet El Presidente," Notorious remains a cult favorite that proves Duran Duran's technical depth beyond the teen-idol era.
