Glenn Danzig teamed up with Rick Rubin for this 1988 debut, fusing bluesy doom riffs with an Elvis-meets-Jim Morrison croon that had no real precedent in metal or punk. "Twist of Cain" kicks things off with a genre-defining riff, and "Mother" — largely ignored on release — became an inescapable radio and MTV staple after a 1993 live remix, still one of the most instantly recognizable hard rock songs ever written.

Backed by John Christ's razor guitar work, Eerie Von's bass, and Chuck Biscuits' drums, Danzig went on to go Platinum and lands regularly on best-metal-albums lists. This RSD Essential pressing arrives on opaque white vinyl in a gatefold jacket featuring Glenn Danzig's own skull artwork.
