Coco & Clair Clair - Girl

Coco & Clair Clair have spent the better part of a decade perfecting a very specific mode: deadpan, funny, faintly menacing rap-pop delivered like the two of them are texting each other from opposite ends of a party. Girl, released in 2024 on their own Nice Girl World imprint, is the fullest version of that idea so far.

Taylor Nave and Claire Toothill write everything together, and the album's charm comes from how casual the delivery is against how carefully built the tracks are. Raven Artson handles production across most of the record, with Atlgrandma, Internetboy, and Aaron Shadrow filling out the roster. "Martini" and "Kate Spade" run on airy, sub heavy beats and half sung hooks, "Bitches Pt. 2" brings Marjorie W.C. Sinclair in for the album's sharpest guest turn, and "Our House" reworks the Crosby, Stills & Nash chestnut into something considerably stranger. "Aggy" closes it out with the duo producing themselves.

The pair built their audience entirely outside the label system, and Girl arrived as their most confident and most fully realized statement. It is a record that sounds tossed off and absolutely is not.

This limited edition pressing puts the album on white and pink cornetto vinyl, cut at 45 RPM. Small run, self released, and already hard to find.
