Chris Connelly has spent forty years moving between the most abrasive corners of industrial music and the most delicate corners of songwriting, often on the same record. War.Poem, released in July 2026 on Dirter Promotions, sits firmly at the abrasive end. It is a single long-form piece split into eight movements, and it is not interested in comforting anyone.
The Scottish-born, Chicago-based artist made his name with Ministry, Revolting Cocks and the Fini Tribe before building a solo catalogue that runs from harsh electronics to Scott Walker-indebted balladry. Here he strips the palette down to voice, texture and repetition. Side one is given over entirely to "War.Poem Zero," a slow accumulation of drone and spoken text. Side two breaks the remaining material into seven shorter sections that circle the same imagery from different angles.
It is closer to sound poetry than to song, and it works best played straight through at volume. For anyone who followed Connelly through the Dirter and Room 40 releases of the last decade, this is a continuation of his most uncompromising line of work.
Limited to 300 copies on military grey vinyl for Dirter Promotions in the UK.
