22, A Million is a record of dualities. First released in 2016, Bon Iver's third album found Justin Vernon reckoning with pain and love, suffering and redemption, omens and happenstance, all through a fragmented language of symbols and numbers.
Vernon built it from hundreds of hours of recorded improvisations with groups of friends close and new, assembling proto-melodies, textures and moods into ten songs that shattered expectations of what a Bon Iver record could be. "22 (OVER S∞∞N)," "33 'GOD'," "715 - CRΣΣKS" and "8 (circle)" traded familiar song structures for fractured electronics, pitch-shifted vocals and dense layers of sound.
What first felt like a radical departure has since become one of the most influential and enduring works in Vernon's catalog, its sound echoing through a decade of indie and pop.
This 10th anniversary edition is pressed on Frosted Silver vinyl with new alternative artwork in a soft-touch finish and spot UV gloss. It includes the original 28-page lyric booklet, reproduced in three silver inks, plus a new 12-page full-color booklet documenting the album's creative process with previously unseen artwork and an essay by longtime visual collaborator Eric Timothy Carlson.
