Augustus Pablo's 1970s recordings, the melodica-led instrumentals and the King Tubby dubs, are some of the foundation stones of modern reggae. Less often told is how he kept going after that, working through the 1980s and '90s on his own Rockers International label and folding new production techniques into a sound that never lost its calm, spiritual center.
Valley Of Jehosaphat was the last album he made. Released only weeks before his death in 1999, it sounds like the work of an artist still refining his vision rather than winding down. The production is clean and spacious, with deep bass and carefully layered arrangements letting the melodica float on top, across tracks like "Kushites," "Jah Express," "Sky Gazer," and the title cut.
Now, courtesy of Nature Sounds and the relaunched Rockers International, the album is getting a full vinyl release for the first time ever. This 2LP edition also adds five bonus tracks of rare Augustus Pablo material from the 1990s.
Pressed on black vinyl across two LPs. Out November 27, 2026.
