After nearly a decade away from solo recording, the Prince of Darkness returned in 2020 with one of the most surprising and celebrated comebacks in rock. Ordinary Man finds Ozzy Osbourne sounding energized, reflective, and anything but ordinary.
The album came together quickly and organically in Los Angeles, a process Ozzy himself compared to recording the first Black Sabbath album, and that spontaneous energy is all over the record. The core band alone is remarkable -- producer Andrew Watt on guitars, Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses on bass, and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers on drums -- but the guest list takes things to another level entirely. Slash appears on the brooding "Straight To Hell," Tom Morello and Post Malone both make appearances, and Elton John sings and plays piano on the deeply personal title track, a song Ozzy says reminded him of classic Elton from the moment it was written.
The album's lead single "Under The Graveyard" hit number one at rock radio and set the tone perfectly -- proof that after more than five decades in rock and roll, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer still has plenty left to say.
