The pinnacle of one of rock's greatest partnerships, and a record that carries one of the most bittersweet legacies in metal history. Released on November 7, 1981 and recorded at Ridge Farm Studios in Rusper, England with producer Max Norman, Diary Of A Madman is Ozzy Osbourne's second solo album and the final studio record to feature guitarist Randy Rhoads. Just five months after its release, Rhoads was killed in a plane crash in Florida at the age of 25, leaving behind a body of work that has only grown in stature with every passing decade.
The album entered the Billboard 200 at number 16 and has since sold over three million copies worldwide, achieving triple platinum certification from the RIAA. Singles "Flying High Again" and "Over The Mountain" both charted on the Mainstream Rock chart, with the former reaching number two. Rolling Stone would later name it one of the 100 greatest metal albums of all time. The neo-classical guitar work of Rhoads is at its most accomplished and searching here, his seamless movement between delicate melody and searing heavy metal giving tracks like opener "Over The Mountain," the power ballad "You Can't Kill Rock And Roll," and the epic title track a depth and drama that set them apart from everything else in the genre at the time.
This 30th anniversary edition has been restored and remastered from the original tapes, returning the album to its intended form with all original parts fully reinstated. The definitive edition of an essential record, sounding better than ever and honoring the full legacy of one of rock's most gifted and irreplaceable talents.
