Sub Pop is excitedly—and finally—repressing the definitive vinyl version of 1994’s Liquor in the Front, a scorching psychobilly classic that has been out of print since the mid-90s. While original pressings have been commanding astronomical prices at "the ol' junk shop" for decades, this fresh black vinyl edition brings the Rev's highest-selling early work back to the turntable where it belongs. Originally co-released with Interscope Records, the album hit #18 on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, solidifying Jim Heath and his trio as the undisputed kings of high-octane, country-fried punk.
Produced by Ministry’s Al Jourgensen, Liquor in the Front is famously the most aggressive and "heavy" entry in the Reverend Horton Heat catalog. Jourgensen’s industrial-leaning touch pushed the band into a sonic red zone, resulting in a record that AllMusic claims "nothing in his catalog can touch" for sheer intensity. The experience kicks off with the high-velocity instrumental "Big Sky" immediately followed by the blistering lament "Baddest of the Bad," setting a relentless pace that rarely lets up.
Amidst the distortion and upright bass thumping, the album also found mainstream success with the single "One Time for Me," which climbed to #40 on the Modern Rock chart. This reissue captures the raw, "cranked" energy of the original sessions, offering fans a chance to own a piece of '90s psychobilly history without the collector's price tag. It is a loud, proud, and unapologetically fast masterpiece of Texas rock 'n' roll.
