A lost classic that shaped modern folk returns. Vashti Bunyan’s Just Another Diamond Day is one of the most beloved rediscoveries of the past few decades, a quiet masterpiece originally released in 1970, abandoned by its creator, and later embraced by a new generation of musicians and collectors.
The album grew out of a real life pilgrimage. After leaving London in 1968 with a horse, a wagon, her partner, and her dog, Bunyan spent more than a year traveling the roads of northern Britain. The songs she wrote along the way were gentle, pastoral reflections shaped by seasons, landscapes, and solitude. Encouraged by folk icon Derroll Adams, she brought the material to producer Joe Boyd. He assembled key members of Fairport Convention and the Incredible String Band to accompany her, creating an album of rare intimacy and luminous simplicity.
Though it drew little attention at the time, Just Another Diamond Day slowly became a cult classic. The master tapes survived decades in storage, the songs circulated among collectors, and artists like Devendra Banhart, Animal Collective, Simon Raymonde, Four Tet, and Fridge championed its quiet magic. Today it is widely regarded as an essential British folk album.
This reissue includes four bonus tracks from vintage vinyl, acetate demos, and early home recordings, along with updated artwork and a booklet with lyrics. It offers the most complete presentation yet of a record that feels both timeless and deeply personal.
A cornerstone of pastoral folk and a must for fans of Nick Drake, Fairport Convention, and modern psych folk.
