Remix Encounters is the stunning new double LP from Propaganda, the legendary German electronic collective whose influence helped shape the landscape of synthpop, industrial, and experimental dance music. Following their celebrated 2024 comeback album, this ambitious collection finds Propaganda’s sound reimagined by an all-star roster of electronic innovators including Moby, Tangerine Dream, Rhys Fulber (Front Line Assembly, Delerium), Schiller, Jori Hulkkonen, and more. Released by Bureau B, Remix Encounters captures the creative energy and admiration that Propaganda’s return has inspired across generations of artists.

From their groundbreaking 1985 debut A Secret Wish and its visionary remix companion Wishful Thinking, Propaganda have always embraced reinvention. Remix Encounters continues that legacy—rather than revisiting the past, it propels their sound forward through an exhilarating range of styles, from EBM and industrial to rave, ambient, and deep electronic exploration. What began as a single remix request from Finnish producer Jori Hulkkonen evolved into a global collaboration, uniting a diverse network of musicians who brought their own sonic DNA to Propaganda’s recent work.

The results are electrifying. Rhys Fulber opens the album with a pulsing, machine-driven reconstruction of “They Call Me Nocebo,” morphing it into a powerful piece of cybernetic funk. Schiller’s remix of “Distant” fuses the emotional core of EBM with sharp, propulsive techno, while Moby turns “Purveyor of Pleasure” into a full-blown rave explosion—breakbeats and rolling basslines crackling with early-’90s energy. Elsewhere, Jimi Tenor drapes “Vicious Circle” in cosmic jazz and dub textures, and Pyrolator—a cornerstone of Düsseldorf’s avant-garde scene—delivers a shadowy, experimental take on “LoveCraft,” joined by Cult With No Name, who reinterpret the same track as a brooding electro-ballad.

Propaganda’s own Michael Mertens, alongside longtime collaborator Hans Steingen, revisits “Dystopian Waltz,” transforming it into a dark, club-ready 4/4 powerhouse. Additional contributions from Gewalt, Metroland, and Tangerine Dream round out a lineup that spans the full spectrum of electronic artistry.

Remix Encounters is more than a remix album—it’s a testament to Propaganda’s enduring relevance and their continued impact on electronic music culture. Energetic, cinematic, and daringly modern, this collection bridges eras and styles, affirming that Propaganda’s spirit of innovation remains as vital as ever.
