Formica Blues is the debut album from English trip hop duo Mono, reissued as a limited edition of 1,000 individually numbered copies on translucent yellow 180-gram audiophile vinyl. Mono first gained attention in 1996 with their hit single “Life in Mono,” which was followed by three additional singles before the release of Formica Blues. The album reached number 71 on the UK Albums Chart and number 137 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. Its sound draws heavily on the television and film theme tunes of the 1960s and 1970s, layering jazzy breakbeats and lush, synth-driven atmospheres reminiscent of Massive Attack. Produced by Martin Virgo, who had previously collaborated with both Massive Attack and Björk, the album combines cinematic nostalgia with contemporary trip hop textures, creating a distinctive and immersive listening experience.
