Tangk marks a bold, radiant turning point for Idles: a full-hearted, wide-open love album built for shouting into the void and finding connection on the other side. Co-produced by Nigel Godrich, Kenny Beats, and guitarist Mark Bowen, the record reframes the band’s ferocity through a newly luminous lens, delivering their most accessible and communal work to date.

Originally a studio nickname for a distinctive guitar tone, the word tangk (pronounced “tank” with a touch of “g”) evolved into a symbol for the record’s guiding principle: living in love with intention, resilience, and abandon. Idles channel this ethos into songs designed to be shared, passed around, and shouted together, transforming private anxieties into collective anthems.

Joe Talbot’s performance is unlike anything heard from him before. Having shed the last remnants of his post-punk bark, he leans fully into a soul-driven vocal style that feels revelatory, vulnerable, and triumphant.
