Alanis Morissette - Jagged Little Pill

Jagged Little Pill is the third studio album—and the first to be released internationally—by Canadian singer Alanis Morissette. Marking a dramatic shift in style from her earlier dance-pop sound, the album introduced a raw, alternative rock edge that resonated with a global audience.

Initially a slow burn, Jagged Little Pill gained major traction in 1996, eventually spending twelve non-consecutive weeks at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. It became one of only three albums—alongside Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Céline Dion’s Falling into You—to remain in the Top Ten for over a year.

With four million units shipped in the U.S. in 1995 alone, the album went on to become the best-selling album of 1996 with ten million units sold. On July 29, 1998, it was certified 16× Multi-Platinum by the RIAA. By 2000, it had sold 28 million copies worldwide, making it the second-best-selling album of the 1990s, behind Shania Twain’s Come On Over. By January 2005, global sales had reached 30 million units.

Jagged Little Pill has received widespread critical recognition. In October 2002, Rolling Stone ranked it number 31 on its Women in Rock: The 50 Essential Albums list, and in 2003, it was placed at number 327 on Rolling Stone's The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
