Cold Spring Records proudly presents the first-ever official physical release of the haunting soundtrack to Lars von Trier’s controversial 2009 film Antichrist. Over a decade after its debut, the film’s extreme and provocative performances by Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg continue to stir strong reactions—shocking, unsettling, and dividing audiences worldwide.
Crafted by acclaimed Danish composer Kristian Eidnes Andersen in close collaboration with von Trier, the soundtrack was created entirely from natural sounds and organic samples, including internal body recordings. Each sonic element was meticulously recorded for the film, reflecting its raw, primal themes. A centerpiece of the release is a somber, newly recorded rendition of Händel’s “Lascia Ch’io Pianga,” performed in Kastelskirken Church, Copenhagen, in 2009 under von Trier’s direction.
This special edition is pressed on heavyweight 180-gram vinyl with an etched B-side and comes housed in a sturdy 350gsm full-color sleeve featuring the original theatrical artwork—personally approved by the director. With over 30 years of experience in film, television, and documentary scoring, Andersen is known for his immersive soundscapes and has collaborated with von Trier on numerous projects including Melancholia (2011), The House That Jack Built (2018), Dancer in the Dark (2000), and Nymphomaniac Vol. I & II (2013).
