Following the critical acclaim of 2021’s I've Been Trying To Tell You, British indie-pop mainstays Saint Etienne return with their 12th studio album, The Night. True to the band's long-standing tradition of immersive storytelling, this record serves as a cinematic escape from the friction of daily life. Designed to be a "calming, warm, and serene" experience, The Night captures the tranquility of the late-night hours, offering a lush soundscape for restless minds and a gentle respite from the relentless pace of the modern world.

The album marks a significant moment for the trio—Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley, and Pete Wiggs—as it is the first time they have recorded together in the same physical studio since 2019. Produced in collaboration with composer Augustin "Gus" Bousfield, the sessions took place between January and August 2024 across two distinct locations in Saltaire and Hove. The result is a "three-dimensional" audio experience that blends ambient pop, delicate jazzy undertones, and field recordings into a continuous, nocturnal flow. From the soft opening of "Settle In" to the emotional depth of "Preflyte" and the expansive "Hear My Heart," the album is a masterclass in mood and texture.

The physical presentation of The Night is as meticulously crafted as the music itself. The cover features a striking, atmospheric photograph by renowned architectural photographer Darren Holden, while the sleeve notes are authored by the award-winning journalist Ben Myers. Released on Heavenly Recordings, this vinyl edition—available in classic black and limited colored variants like "Coke Bottle Green" and Splatter—is the definitive way to experience an album that Bob Stanley describes as "gorgeous and dense."
