Lord Huron returns with their fifth studio album, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1, a lush, cinematic journey pressed as a 2xLP on vibrant red swirl vinyl. The album, written and co-produced by Los Angeles-based songwriter and visual artist Ben Schneider, continues the band’s tradition of creating expansive, atmospheric music that blends indie rock, folk, and dreamlike storytelling.

Alongside Schneider, band members Tom Renaud, Mark Barry, and Miguel Briseño contribute to the project, with guest appearances from actress Kristen Stewart and Kazu Makino of Blonde Redhead. Early singles “Looking Back,” “Who Laughs Last,” and “Nothing I Need” set the tone for an album that balances introspective lyricism with sweeping, cinematic arrangements.

The album’s title references the enigmatic “Cosmic Selector” depicted on the cover, a metaphor for choice, fate, and the unpredictability of life. Schneider explains: “What if you could choose your fate like choosing a song on a jukebox? What if your finger slipped and you got the B-side instead? What if you misunderstood the meaning of the dang song to begin with?” With this conceptual core, The Cosmic Selector Vol. 1 combines Lord Huron’s signature storytelling with vibrant instrumentation and rich sonic textures, making it an essential addition for fans of the band’s expansive sound.
