Revolution Radio, released in 2016, is the twelfth studio album from punk/alt-rock trailblazers Green Day. The album marks a return to the trio format after Jason White resumed his role as a touring member, following the expansive ¡Uno!, ¡Dos!, ¡Tré! trilogy of 2012.
Work on the album began in January 2016 after a two-year hiatus, with Billie Joe Armstrong describing Revolution Radio as “not so much a makeover as a make under,” reflecting a more focused, stripped-back approach. The album balances Green Day’s punk roots with sharp songwriting and politically aware lyrics, delivering anthems that are both personal and socially charged.
The band—Billie Joe Armstrong (vocals/guitar), Mike Dirnt (bass/backing vocals), and Tré Cool (drums)—draws on their working-class upbringing and Berkeley punk origins to craft an album that resonates with both longtime fans and new listeners alike.
