Dummy - Dumb EPs

Dumb EPs brings together the origins of Dummy, the Los Angeles five-piece whose sound bridges krautrock repetition, shoegaze haze, and dreamy post-punk minimalism. Released by Sonic Cathedral, this compilation remasters the band’s first two EPs from 2020 — previously available only digitally and on cassette — and presents them on vinyl for the first time, pressed on translucent green wax and newly mastered by Simon Scott of Slowdive.

Following the acclaim of their 2021 debut Mandatory Enjoyment (Trouble In Mind) and a single for Sub Pop, Dumb EPs offers a deeper look into Dummy’s beginnings: shimmering guitars, motorik rhythms, analog synth textures, and celestial vocal layers that evoke both the motorik precision of Stereolab and the DIY experimentalism of Wire. Recorded between late 2019 and early 2020, these early songs pulse with an exploratory energy — concise, hypnotic, and brimming with the lo-fi warmth of a band in motion.

Critics have already embraced Dummy as one of the most exciting new voices in underground pop: Pitchfork called them “a modern cult band in the making,” while Aquarium Drunkard described their sound as “a scrappy, punch-drunk Stereolab or a blissed-out, mantra-hypnotized Wire.”
