Remote Control is the debut album from New York-based sound and visual artist JJ Weihl, aka Discovery Zone, originally released in 2020 and now reissued for its five-year anniversary. This special Purple Marble edition features a striking holographic key on the cover—a fitting emblem for an album that constantly interrogates what is real, what is virtual, and what lies in between.

The album blends nostalgia with futuristic soundscapes, reshaping the humble tones of drum machines, keyboard presets, vocoders, and theremin into a glowing, experimental pop laboratory. Assisted by producer E/T and Lucas Chantre (WORLD BRAIN), Weihl transforms everyday sonic defaults into unbounded explorations, from the system-notification synth-funk of “Dance II” to the trance-like incantations of “Blissful Morning Dream Interpretation Melody.”

Remote Control is both cerebral and emotional. At its midpoint, the album frames a dialogue between a Siri-like robot named Sophia and her creator, exploring identity, mediation, and the boundaries between human and artificial experience. Lyrically and musically, the album meditates on paradox, love, physics, and philosophy, threading these concepts through approachable, melodic pop structures.

The release also celebrates Discovery Zone’s visual artistry. Green screen, found footage, personal videos, early computer animation, and sci-fi aesthetics combine in live visuals and music videos, creating a digital bricolage that complements the album’s sonic narrative.
