Rather than abandon the songs, Dag Nasty regrouped in early 1986 with new singer Dave Smalley, re-recording the entire set and releasing it as the now-classic Can I Say. Dag With Shawn allows listeners to hear those songs in their raw, original form, offering a fascinating contrast to the later versions.

This release is taken from restored master tapes and mastered at Chicago Mastering Service, preserving the urgency and clarity of the original recordings while giving them the best possible sound.
