Cry was created in a beautiful house on the island of Mallorca, and the album carries the uneasy beauty, quiet desire, and minimal atmosphere of that setting. The songs have a soft glow and a sense of spaciousness that mirrors the environment. Greg Gonzalez wrote many pieces only minutes before recording, working closely with drummer Jacob Tomsky, bassist Randy Miller, and keyboardist Phillip Tubbs. He engineered and produced the sessions himself with a focus on capturing live performances and letting the band explore the music together in conversation with the space around them.
