Hot on the heels of their acclaimed third LP >>>, the ever-evolving UK experimental unit Beak> wastes no time in delivering Life Goes On—a brief but potent EP capturing the group in full creative stride. Clocking in at four tracks, this compact set finds the trio of Billy Fuller, Geoff Barrow, and Will Young once again bending time and tone into their own peculiar geometry.
The lead track, “We Can Go,” might just be the most traditionally structured song Beak> has ever committed to tape—something resembling pop, viewed through a cracked analog lens. “The most normal song we’ve ever written,” they say, with just the right touch of self-aware absurdity.
But the EP's soul lies in its namesake. “Life Goes On” was born from an otherworldly moment in Mexico City—where a distorted child’s voice echoed across the urban sprawl. The sound, it turns out, came from a scrap collector’s cart urging residents to bring out discarded appliances. That surreal, looping plea struck a chord, and within days of returning to Bristol, the band captured its essence back at Invada Studios.
Life Goes On plays like a transmission from a parallel universe where public announcements become melodies and refuse becomes rhythm. This is Beak> in miniature—strange, human, and effortlessly hypnotic.
