With Juillet, Parisian quintet En Attendant Ana deliver on the promise of their debut Lost & Found (2018), crafting ten songs that shimmer, sway, and soar with a newfound sophistication. Trouble in Mind is proud to present Juillet to the world.
Recorded in one week at the remote Studio Claudio in rural France by Vincent Hivert and Alexis Fugain, Juillet captures a band in transition—reshaping its sound through personal and creative shifts. It marks the first appearance of guitarist Maxence Tomasso, joining a lineup that channels both urgency and poise. Vocalist and lyricist Margaux Bouchaudon describes the album as “a journey toward the acceptance of loss—friends, lovers, dreams—but also toward self-respect and independence.” That duality shines throughout, as melancholic undertones are often met with hopeful melodies, buoyant trumpet flourishes (courtesy of Camille Fréchou), and dynamic guitar interplay.
Where Lost & Found felt raw and untamed, Juillet is intentional and finely woven. Written and arranged over six months, the songs feel interconnected—each strong on its own but even more radiant as a whole. Tracks like “Do You Understand?” and lead single “Words” sharpen the band’s melodic edge without losing their emotional complexity. Elsewhere, “Flesh or Blood” and opener “Down the Hill” expand on the group’s signature push-pull tension, while “In/Out” pairs poetic lyrics with an infectious rhythmic pulse, thanks to bassist Antoine Vaugelade and drummer Adrien Pollin. The closing stretch—especially the ambient “When It Burns” and the introspective “From My Bruise to an Island”—dives into confessional territory, opening up new possibilities for the band’s evolving sound.
Mastered by renowned French engineer Dominique Blanc-Francard, Juillet is both sonically rich and emotionally resonant. Named for the French word for July, the album captures a turning point: the end of one chapter and the start of another.
